Emma Husar cleared of sexual harassment

Outgoing Labor MP Emma Husar has been cleared of allegations of lewd behavior and sexual harassment in an ALP report tabled today, but claims of unacceptable treatment of staff “had merit.”

An accusation that Ms Husar exposed herself to Labor colleague Jason Clare was found to have never happened. Claims of workplace harassment and bullying, however, have been referred to the Department of Finance.

The investigation led by John “Jack” Whelan heard from 22 individuals, mostly former staff. Some of the claims were that Ms Husar asked them to walk her dog and pick up after it and working for her was “brutal and bizarre”.

Mr Whelan accepted the staff’s version that Ms Husar’s management style was “offensive and unreasonable”.

“After considering all sides of the relevant issues the assessment has generally favorited the complainant’s perception of events,” the report found.

Emma Husar revealed exclusively to 9NEWS on Wednesday she would not be recontesting the seat of Lindsay at the next Federal election.

Mr Whelan said, however, there was no basis for Ms Husar to resign from the Australian Parliament.

Allegations of misusing entitlements have been referred to the Parliamentary Expenses Authority, something and Husar had already done herself.

The investigator noted that leaking parts of the assessment publicly was “reprehensible”, and Mr Whelan denied being the source of the information.

The NSW Labor Party has confirmed it will not release the full report to the Parliament.

Labor leader Bill Shorten said Ms Husar had done the right thing by the party when she quit.

"In terms of what she's done and what she hasn't done, she will get a chance to read the report and people will learn the lessons," he told reporters on Friday.

"Everyone needs to be treated with respect out of this process and there is little more I can add."
