Emergency slide accidentally deployed from Jetstar plane after landing at Melbourne airport

Passengers aboard a Jetstar flight have been left bemused after an emergency slide was inadvertently deployed after the aircraft landed at Melbourne airport.

The slide was deployed as JQ700 taxied towards its arrival gate this morning after arriving from Hobart.

Images posted to Twitter showed the silver slide resting on the tarmac with ground crew nearby.

The slide was deployed from the second exit on the aircraft, and passengers were able to exit uninhibited from the front of the plane after a 10-minute delay.

Jetstar spokesman Michael Scott told 9news.com.au the crew from the flight have been stood down until an investigation by the airline is completed.

“The emergency slide on an Airbus A321 aircraft was inadvertently deployed at Melbourne Airport this morning,” Mr Scott said.

“The aircraft was slowly taxiing into the bay when the slide was deployed about 10 metres from its final stop.

“We’ve stood down the crew from further duties as we look into what occurred.”

Mr Scott added safety systems built into the aircraft did not allow emergency slides to be deployed in the air.

Jetstar has notified the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau of the incident.
