Eleventh hour vigils for Bali pair

Scores of Australians are expected to attend eleventh hour vigils to express solidary with convicted Bali Nine drug smugglers Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Adelaide is expecting more than 100 people to attend its The Light of Life Vigil on Friday night to pray for Chan and Sukumaran, who are expected to be executed in the coming week.

"We want the government and people of Indonesia to know that there are many Australians who seek mercy for these men and who, with every fibre of our being, respectfully oppose these executions and the executions of all people everywhere," said vicar general Fr Philip Marshall.

"The vigil is a demonstration of our absolute belief in the value of life."

In NSW, Amnesty International will be hosting its last Keep Hope Alive vigil after earlier demonstrations around Australia.

Organiser Stephen Turner said they're hoping for about 40 or 50 attendees at its Central Coast event.
