A 91-year-old Tasmanian man had to wait two days in hospital for treatment despite serious injuries caused by a fall.

Devonport veteran Frank Wiggins was admitted to Launceston General Hospital late on Sunday and was scheduled for specialised plastic surgery on Monday, which was delayed as the surgeon prioritised emergency cases.

"We recognise the public interest in this particular circumstance and agree that any case of an elderly person having to wait for care is distressing," Health Minister Michael Ferguson said in a statement issued on Tuesday, adding that Mr Wiggins has undergone surgery and an investigation will into his case will be undertaken.
