Elderly man charged over Perth death

An elderly man has been charged with murdering one man and assaulting three other people at an apartment in Perth.

A 73-year-old man died when he was allegedly attacked by a 74-year-old man after he answered the door of his unit on Shakespeare Avenue in Yokine at 6.20pm on Friday, police say.

The alleged attacker was known to the deceased man's female visitor, age 64, who tried to flee the unit but was assaulted. She suffered lacerations.

Two male neighbours, aged 44 and 35, who went to her aid received non-life threatening injuries when they tried to restrain the man.

The 74-year-old man has been charged with numerous offences including murder, two counts of attempted murder, and breaching a violence restraining order.

He is due to face Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday.
