Elderly man charged after allegedly shooting a man at a Melbourne home

An elderly man has been charged after allegedly shooting and seriously injuring another man at a Melbourne home last night.

Police were called to the Cochrane Street home in Mitcham about 11.30pm after reports a man had been shot.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.

The 71-year-old has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury and other firearm related offences.

He will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

It is believed he and the injured man are known to each other.
