Extra border force officers were deployed at Sydney Airport, which experienced the worst delays in the country with lines stretching from the immigration gate to the other end of the terminal.

"Flying international out of Sydney? There is a km long queue for immigration check," one traveller said on social media.

Virgin, Qantas and Jetstar flights were not impacted by the delays as ground staff called passengers forward.

Brisbane Airport also experienced minor delays.

Melbourne Airport, Adelaide Airport, Perth Airport and Cairns Airport have said they were unaffected by the technical issue.
