The man convicted of killing a senior federal police officer 25 years ago will know on Friday whether he'll stay in jail.
David Eastman has spent 19 years behind bars after being convicted of the 1989 murder of Australian Federal Police assistant commissioner Colin Winchester.
The full bench of the ACT Supreme Court will decide on Friday afternoon whether to quash Eastman's conviction, order a fresh trial, recommend the ACT government grant a pardon or allow the conviction to stand.
The decision follows an inquiry, led by former Northern Territory chief justice Brian Martin, that found there had been a substantial miscarriage of justice at Eastman's trial.
Justice Martin, while finding key forensic evidence was discredited, said there was still a strong, but not overwhelming, circumstantial case and that Eastman was probably guilty.
He recommended Eastman's conviction be quashed and a pardon granted.
The ACT Supreme Court will deliver its decision at 2.15pm on Friday.
