Magnitude 6.2 earthquake north of Australia felt in Darwin
Geoscience Australia say that almost 300 people in Darwin felt an earthquake north of Australia, in the Arafura Sea.
The 6.2 magnitude quake struck 10 kilometres deep in the continental shelf between Australia and Western New Guinea, on Friday just after 7pm local time (8.30pm AEDT).

In the hours that followed, GA says 293 people in the Northern Territory capital reported feeling the tremor.
There was no tsunami warning issued as a result of the quake in the ocean and no reports of damage.
