Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has pushed back against calls to pump extra funding into Australia's domestic intelligence agency.

In its annual report, the Australian Security and Intelligence Organisation warned it was not keeping pace with increased levels of foreign interference and espionage.

"The ASIO funding goes up every year," Mr Dutton told reporters in Canberra on Thursday.

"We will put more money in each year and, as I say, the staffing numbers grow each year.

"Look, every agency head across the Commonwealth wants more money into their agency, and every minister wants more money into their departments and their agencies."
