Dutch backpacker speaks of Victorian rape, torture nightmare

A young Dutch backpacker has told of her horrific experience kept as a sex slave in Melbourne.

The woman met Jennifer Peaston and her partner Alfio Granata at a St Kilda party, but the relationship soon turned nasty, a court has heard.

The young tourist was subjected to beatings, knife attacks and rape during the ordeal which only ended when she tried to kill herself.

When paramedics arrived to treat her, she thanked them.

“I am safe, thank you for saving me,” she reportedly told the first responders.

Peaston has pleaded guilty and earlier this week Granata pleaded guilty to 16 charges, including nine counts of rape, intentionally causing injury, making threats to kill and threatening to inflict serious injury.

Today, the victim read a victim impact statement from a remote location, detailing her abuse.

“I won't go outside by myself,” she said.

“I feel like something bad will happen to me."

She told the court she now suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The woman has now returned to Holland and is still struggling to return to normal life.
