Home fragrance and candles retailer dusk has issued a recall for several of its electric oil burners over a potentially dangerous switch defect.

The recall was issued after it was discovered the switch mechanism on some oil burners could pop out and expose live electrical parts.

"There is a risk of serious injury or death from electric shock if the switch mechanism pops out," the ACCC's Product Safety Australia said in a recall notice.

"There is also a risk of burns and damage to property if the oil burner catches fire due to this switch defect."

The electrical oil burner was sold by dusk in 10 different designs online and in stores from January 20 to September 6 this year.

The oil burners feature a 3-hour timer switch, used to heat water and essential oil, to produce a fragrant scented mist.
