Concertgoer falls to ground face-first after failed crowd-surfing attempt

A man has narrowly avoided death after he jumped from a balcony in a crowd surfing attempt gone horribly wrong.

Doctors said the 20-year-old was lucky to avoid serious injury after the failed attempt on Wednesday night at the Thebarton Theatre in Adelaide during a Dune Rats concert.

The man was dancing on the four-metre-high balcony at about 11pm when, before security could stop him, he jumped into the crowd hoping they would catch him.

Instead, fans screamed and ran away, leaving him to fall flat on his face.

"He just took his shirt off and started standing on the balcony and everyone though he was just dancing," Brendon Maczkowiack, who filmed the video, told The Advertiser.

"So I started recording him and then two seconds later he just jumped into the pit."

“Everyone started screaming and just moved out the way and let him fall. He thought people were going to catch him.”

"His face was covered in blood. They had to keep wiping it away. It was intense."

The man was rushed to Royal Adelaide Hospital where he was treated for facial injuries. Doctors said it was lucky he didn’t suffer any serious spinal injuries.

He was released from hospital yesterday.
