Drunk teens break into croc park, taunt famous resident

Two teenagers described by police as "a tad intoxicated" broke into the Northern Territory's "Crocosaurus Cove" early this morning and taunted a saltwater croc that appeared in the 1986 film, Crocodile Dundee.

"About 4:00am we received a call from the security guard," NT Police Deputy Superintendent Del Jones told ABC.

"He - God bless his cotton socks - gave chase and the two suspects decamped."

The pair threw objects into 80-year-old Burt's enclosure, including a "wet floor" sign and a pink buoy, which the 700kg salty summarily chewed up in disgust.

"Burt didn't like that, he destroyed it," Superintendent Jones said.

The teens were caught after a short, on-foot chase and taken to holding cells in Darwin.

Described around the park as a "a confirmed bachelor with one hell of a grumpy attitude", Burt appeared in an iconic scene opposite Paul Hogan in the 1986 Australiana classic, Crocodile Dundee, as well as various documentaries, and has been in captivity for more than 30 years.

Supt Jones described the teenagers' alleged actions as "extremely foolish" and had some stern words for potential copycats.

"Don't do it, not only is it dangerous, it is criminal behaviour," she said.
