A Townsville man has been charged after a large sum of money, drugs and a firearm were found during a traffic stop at Innisfail.

About 3.30pm yesterday, detectives noticed a motorcycle with cancelled registration plates in the drive thru of a fast food restaurant on Charles Street.

Police allege the driver attempted to flee and was arrested by officers after a struggle.

About $80,000 worth of methamphetamine, heroin, a stolen firearm and about $40,000 in cash was allegedly found in his backpack.

Police believe the gun was used on June 21 to threaten a man at a residence on Murphy Street in Deeragun.

A 36-year-old man from Deeragun is due to appear in the Innisfail magistrates court today charged with 16 drug and weapons offences.
