WA police seize $50 million worth of meth in 24 hours

More than 50 kilograms of methamphetamine has been seized, and six people have been charged, after police executed three separate drug busts in Western Australia.

Police say the drugs, worth $50 million, were uncovered in a 24 hour period.

The first targeted a drug trafficking syndicate at the Port of Dampier in the state’s north-west, where 31 kilograms of methamphetamine was seized on Monday.

It’s alleged it was brought into WA via a bulk cargo carrier and brought ashore in luggage and also allegedly hidden in lifejackets.

Three Bulgarian nationals; two men and a woman have been charged.

The same day, a 33-year-old Sydney man was allegedly busted at Perth Airport with 20 kilograms of methamphetamine in his luggage.

Police said he boarded the flight using a false name.

He has since appeared in court charged with possessing methamphetamine with intent to sell or supply.

On Tuesday, another 527 grams of the drug was allegedly discovered during a raid on a home in Armadale.

Officers also seized two hand guns and more than $50,000 cash.

Two people have been charged.

“If these drugs had not been seized, they’d be used in the community,” WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said.

“There’s a very high correlation between the abuse of methamphetamine and other crimes.”

All six people charged have already faced court and will re-appear at later dates.
