A body has been found in the search for a swimmer who vanished in a lake near Orange.

An extensive search was launched yesterday about 2pm when a 27-year-old man was reported missing in Lake Conobolas.

NSW Police said a body was found about four hours later, which they believe belongs to the missing man.

He is yet to be formally identified.

This comes after a spate of drownings over the holiday period.

A body was found on Tuesday after a man swimming across the river at Tocumwal, north of the Victorian border, went under and did not resurface.

A seven-year-old girl drowned in a river north of Perth while on a day trip with her family on Sunday.

On the same day, a 16-year-old boy's body was recovered from a Parramatta reservoir after he failed to surface while swimming with friends.

Another man, aged 25, drowned while swimming at a beach in Wagga on Christmas Day.

A brief will be prepared for the coroner.
