Three killed in horror Maitland crash

Three men have been killed in a two-car collision in Maitland in the York Peninsula of South Australia.

The cars were travelling along the Spencer Highway at about 4.45pm yesterday when they collided near the intersection of Balgowan Road at Maitland.

The drivers on both cars, a 59-year-old Moonta man and a 72-year-old Sheidow Park man, were pronounced dead at the scene.

An 82-year-old man from Flagstaff Hill who was travelling as a passenger in one of the vehicles, an Isuzu utility, has also died after surviving the incident.

He sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Authorities confirmed his death this morning.

The Spencer Highway was closed for some time last night, but has since been reopened with traffic moving through slowly.

The crash takes the South Australia’s road toll to 90, compared to 79 at the same time last year.
