A car has burst into flames on the NSW Central Coast, closing the Pacific Motorway northbound for more than an hour.

No one was hurt in the incident, which occurred northbound on the M1 at Wyong, near Wyong Road at about 10:45am.

An image from the scene shows a white 4WD significantly engulfed in flames.

A NSW Rural Fire Service spokeswoman said there was no indication as to what caused the fire.

The RFS sent one crew to contain the fire, which sent smoke billowing across the area and affected traffic in both directions.

All lanes have now reopened.
