Driver of schoolbus responsible for M5 near-miss to plead guilty

The driver of a bus carrying school children that merged into the path of an oncoming truck on Sydney's M5, almost causing a catastrophic collision, will plead guilty to two charges of dangerous driving.

Kazem Afkhamisaddoghi, 60, didn’t appear in Liverpool Court today and his lawyer told the magistrate he is only half way through the traffic offenders program and was struggling to complete it on time.

Afkhamisaddoghi is facing two dangerous driving charges including driving recklessly and negligent driving.

Video showed the moment Afkhamisaddoghi pulled out onto the M5, into the path of a semi-trailer. A plume of smoke is visible as the truck driver hits the brakes.

None of the school children or either of the drivers were injured in the incident.

Afkhamisaddoghi has previously apologised for the incident, saying he believed he had enough time to pull out into the moving traffic.

Afkhamisaddoghi will be sentenced on September 27.
