‘He killed my son’: Mum of Darwin boy killed in hit-and-run threatened with arrest in dramatic court scenes

The family of a child killed in a hit-and-run have today come face-to-face with the family of the young man accused of doing it.

It is alleged 23-year-old Mathew Alexander ran over nine-year-old Jack Sultan-Page in October and left him by the side of the road.

Mr Alexander's family say it was an accident but emotions boiled over in Darwin Magistrates Court today.

The Magistrate was forced to threaten grieving mother Faye Sultan with arrest after she yelled “he killed my son”.

Mr Alexander's family replied “it was an accident”.

All the while the 23-year-old sat behind glass in the dock with his head down .

Jack died in Royal Darwin Hospital of head injuries after he was knocked off his bike outside his Moulden home.

Mr Alexander faces one charge of hit-and-run causing death as well as a string of drug charges.

His lawyer indicated Mr Alexander will plead guilty and said he's been accepted into a drug rehabilitation program.
