Drag racer crashes car into wall at 300km/h

Video has emerged of the bone-crushing moment a Queensland drag racer flipped his record-breaking machine and hit a wall at 300km/h.

Ben Bray's Factory Xtreme final run at Willowbank Raceway's Winternationals on Saturday begins like any other.

Pictured in the starting bay, Bray revs the engine of the Nissan Altima that took him over the line in a world-record time just one hour earlier.

Seconds later in a potentially career-ending blow, he veers right about 150m off the start line, careening into the wall roof-first before coming to a rest upside down.

The 30-year-old suffered three fractured vertebrae, six fractured ribs and bruising to his lungs – but it was only later that scans revealed he had broken his back.

Despite his injuries Bray, the son of racing stalwart Victor Bray, appeared in good spirits immediately after the crash, even posting a selfie to social media.

He is expected to spend at least two months in a back brace and could face surgery further down the track.
