Dozens caught in Vic phone driving blitz

A woman has been interviewed for careless driving after slowing down to write a note on her steering wheel that Melbourne police were targeting mobile phone offences ahead.

The woman was one of nearly 50 people intercepted during a police blitz on mobile phone offences on Hoddle Street, one of Melbourne's busiest roads, on Thursday evening.

One motorist was intercepted for texting after driving past seven police officers dressed in high visibility gear at about five kilometres per hour.

The man did not notice officers and was intercepted at lights shortly after.

The blitz intercepted 21 people for checking apps while driving, 11 people for talking on mobile phones, nine people for texting and four for holding a phone.
