Dog saves Sydney woman strangled by alleged home intruder

A loyal dog may have saved a woman's life after it attacked a man who allegedly broke into a home in Sydney's west and was strangling the owner.

Caesar the pit bull came to the rescue of owner Susan Bandera when she was woken and allegedly attacked by a home intruder about 4am yesterday.

The dog burst into the room and attacked the man, stopping the alleged potentially fatal assault.

Ms Bandera ran and hid in her bathroom and the man fled the scene.

The 60-year-old is in a mobility scooter after being shot by police 11 years ago.

The Parramatta woman's daughter said she was "really proud" the dog came to her mum's rescue.

"He is such a good boy. I couldn't be more happy with how he reacted," Natasha Bandera said today.

Peni Naiseralag, 32, has been arrested over the alleged attack and has been charged with break, enter and assault with intent to murder.

His friends told 9News he rented a room from Ms Bandera when he first arrived in Australia from Fiji, but she'd allegedly kicked him out and kept his passport.
