Adelaide dog destroyed after vicious mauling: 'It could've been anyone'

A dog in Adelaide’s north has been put down after it mauled its owner, leaving her with serious injuries.

Paramedics and police were called to an International Avenue home in Salisbury North, where the 55-year-old victim was attacked by the Bull Mastiff cross at about 8am today.

She was bleeding from severe head and arm injuries as she was loaded onto a stretcher and rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where she remains in a serious condition.

Salisbury Council officers arrived on scene a short time later to seize the dog. The animal has since been destroyed at the owner's request.

Neighbours have described the attack as horrific.

"It's scary, it could've been anyone around here, yeah I hope she's alright," neighbour Deb told 9News.

They say they've often seen the dog roaming the neighbourhood.

"She was here weeding one day and it was in the creek and we had to walk past, with my grandson, and went to call out to it and I said, 'No, don't," Deb said.

Mum of three Natasha said several days ago she had been scared to go outside when she had seen the dog running around.
