Does training one bicep grow the other?

That's a theory Perth researchers will put to the test as recruiting gets underway to study a phenomenon known as the "cross-transfer" effect.

Edith Cowan University explains the theory of single limb training, also called "unilateral training", which enables the transfer of a response to the same muscle but on the opposite limb.

Volunteers aged 18-35 will take part in 34 training sessions at ECU's Exercise Physiology Laboratory in Joondalup including maximum bicep strength testing.

Subjects will be required to wear singlets at times during the 11-week training block.

The university says volunteers will "get the opportunity to undertake upper arm resistance training for free under the supervision of an accredited Sports Scientist Strength and Conditioning Coach."

Potential volunteers are urged to contact ECU Joondalup.
