Woman fights off Vic bus stop abduct bid

A 29-year-old woman who fought off a man who tried to abduct her from a Melbourne bus stop says she's now terrified of being alone.

The man drove up to the Campbellfield bus stop in the city's north, rolled down the window, and asked the woman if she wanted a lift.

He then tried to flatter her with pick-up lines.

"He just said, `Oh, you're beautiful. I want you to be my girlfriend'," recalled the woman, Susan, who didn't want her last name published.

When she declined his offers, the man got angry, jumped out of his light coloured Toyota Camry, and tried to drag her into the car.

Both of his hands wrapped around her arm and he started pulling, but she wedged her foot behind a bus stop pole and held on until he finally gave up and fled.

Susan said she's still shaken by the incident, which occurred around 10pm on February 20.

"I can't trust anybody. I can't go anywhere on my own," she said on Monday.

"It is really scary because I didn't know what was going to happen to me.

"Will he rape me? Hurt me? Try to kill me? I just thought about my family more than anything. If something bad happened to me."

Constable Steve Willer said was very lucky she was strong enough to fight off the angry man.

"Susan's very lucky in this case," he said.

The man, who said he was John from Craigieburn, is described as being in his 30s with a scruffy appearance.

He had dirty hands and fingernails with a strong smell of cleaning products and spoke with a Lebanese or Arabic accent.

His car was an older model, possibly made in the late 1980s or early 1990s.
