Foreign Minister Julie Bishop doesn't intend to contact the female diplomat who complained about Jamie Briggs, but says she has been offered counselling.

Ms Bishop says the Hong Kong-based officer has asked for privacy and she is satisfied that her department is providing appropriate support to the woman.

The minister also told ABC radio on Thursday she thinks it's "time to move on" from the incident, after Mr Briggs accepted the "significant consequence" of resigning from the front bench over his actions.
