The search for a cure to help children with diabetes realise a life free of needles has got a $14 million boost from the federal government.

The funds, going to the most promising researchers in the field, will help more than 1500 young Australians with type 1 diabetes access new trial therapies.

It's the first part of $35 million the federal government has pledged to give to research sponsored by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
