DFAT says no to extra gender reporting

The foreign affairs department has dismissed a legislative attempt to have it consider gender issues when making decisions about aid.

A Senate committee is examining a Greens bill that also aims to step up the department's reporting requirements on gender equality.

While some aid groups are in favour of the move, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade insists the existing system adequately addresses the bill's aims.
