Demand for workers shows signs of easing

Demand for workers appears to be cooling with growth in job advertisements on the internet falling for a second straight month.

The Department of Jobs and Small Business internet vacancy index fell 0.9 per cent in May following a drop of 0.8 per cent the previous month, although it was still 5.8 per cent higher over the year.

Job ads fell in all eight of the occupational groups monitored by the department with the largest falls recorded for sales workers and labourers, which both fell 1.5 per cent in the month.
