Defence force makes special delivery to lifeguards in Phuket
Australian and US forces have delivered surf lifesaving equipment and training to Phuket’s Patong Beach.
Using amphibious vessels from HMAS Canberra, the Australia Defence Force this week delivered 20 surf rescue boards and 1500 life jackets to help spread the world-famous Aussie water safety message.
They’ve also helped to build a learning centre, constructing fences and a playground and laying turf.

“Australian water safety standards are respected the world over, so Thailand sees the value of this,” co-founder of the Phuket Lifeguard Club David Field said.
The club has trained more than 4000 budding local nippers in board and rope throw rescues and how to identify a rip.
The Indo-Pacific Endeavour 2019 is a three-month trip which will see 1200 personnel, four ships and maritime aircraft visit seven countries.
