Defence rolls out G20 summit operation
RAAF Super Hornet aircraft and about 2000 defence personnel will help provide security for the G20 summit in Brisbane.
The federal government has budgeted $15 million for the unprecedented security effort to protect the leaders of 20 nations as well as thousands of officials and business chiefs.
The summit will take place on November 15 and 16.
"We are very well prepared to be able to support that meeting," Chief of Joint Operations Vice Admiral David Johnston told reporters in Canberra on Wednesday.
The operation includes air protection and counter-terrorism operations.
Radar surveillance, anti-aircraft weaponry and Hornets will also be in place.
Air operations chief Air Commodore Joe Iervasi said there would be flying exercises west of Brisbane in coming days and flights over the city next week.
A multi-agency training exercise involving fictitious threats from air, sea and land was run last month.
