Defence company goes for top bureaucrat

A former high-ranking federal bureaucrat has been appointed non-executive chairman of Australia's largest defence company.

Ian Watt headed up the prime minister's department and was also secretary of the Defence department.

He will now guide BAE Systems which can expect substantial work from projects to build new warships and submarines.
