Five arrested and officer punched in violent carpark brawl at Sydney beach

A police officer has been punched in the face during a violent beachside brawl in Sydney that saw five people arrested.

Police had tried to stop a suspected stolen Volkswagen Amarok along Dee Why Parade in Dee Why at 2pm.

The vehicle allegedly sped off, ploughing into parked cars behind the Surf Life Saving Club, including one that had a woman sitting in the driver’s seat.

The group inside the offending vehicle all attempted to run from officers, who used OC spray and a taser to subdue the group all aged in their 20s.

The innocent woman can be seen in mobile footage looking dazed and confused.  She was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

A senior constable was taken to hospital after being punched in the face several times.

“It’s just a surprise there’s no kids around and no one got hurt considering there’s so many people on the main strip down there,” witness Max told 9News.

The men aged 27, 22, and 21 and two women – believed to be in their early 20s - are spending New Year’s Eve being questioned by police at Manly police station.
