DEADLY STORMS IN NSW, ACT AND TASMANIA:

DEATH TOLL (4)

* Man, 65, found in a car in Mittagong Creek near Bowral, NSW.

* Man, 70, found in a ute at Leppington in Sydney's southwest.

* Man, 37, after becoming trapped in his car near the Cotter Dam, ACT.

* Woman, 75, whose home was inundated with water in Latrobe, Tasmania.

MISSING (3)

* American man, 20, swept off rocks at Sydney's Bondi Beach.

* Man, 63, after his car was swept away near Evandale, south of Launceston.

* Man, 81, swept into the Ouse River while feeding his sheep.

EVACUATIONS

* Residents given the all-clear to return to their homes across NSW. No further orders.

* About 600 residents evacuated in Launceston, particularly the low-lying suburb of Invermay.

DAMAGE

* Thousands of sandbags used to fortify homes that risk collapsing along Sydney's Collaroy Beach. Boulders brought in to strengthen sea defences.

* SES crews assisting storm-hit communities including North Lismore, Sydney's southwest and the city's northern beaches.

* 350 homes across NSW without power including 30 near Narrabeen and 40 at Hunters Hill.

* At least 300 customers without power across Tasmania with long delays in restoration.

* Insurers had received more than 14,500 claims across Queensland, NSW, Victoria and Tasmania by Tuesday morning. Estimated insured losses of $56 million, with figure expected to rise.

* In Tasmania, 200 homes are affected by floodwaters as well as 100 roads.

* 19 bridges have suffered damage.

* Spirit of Tasmania journeys between Melbourne and Devonport are suspended until further notice.

FORECAST

* Severe weather warning for damaging winds in the Snowy Mountains, affecting NSW and the ACT.

* Flood warnings for the Hawkesbury and Nepean Rivers, South Coast, Wyong River and Tuggerah Lake, Orara River, Bogan River, Queanbeyan and Molonglo Rivers, Cooks River and the Snowy River.

* Yarramundi Bridge and Windsor Bridge reopened. Cronulla-Bundeena and Palm Beach ferries back in service.

* In Tasmania, residents in lower regions of Launceston on high flood alert. Charles Street Bridge closed.

* Major flooding occurring in the South Esk, Macquarie and Meander Rivers.
