Five teenagers charged over Toorak jewellery store smash-and-raid

Five teenage boys have been charged over the daylight robbery of a Melbourne jewellery store where a staff member was allegedly hit in the head with a gun.

A large sum of jewellery was taken from Imp Jewellery in Toorak Village, on Toorak Road, during the robbery on January 14, police said.

CCTV obtained by 9NEWS showed four hooded offenders smashing the shop's cabinets and grabbing jewellery, leaving shattered glass strewn across the floor.

A male staff member was also allegedly struck in the head with the butt of a gun, before the offenders fled in a getaway car with their loot.

Police found the car abandoned in Collingwood soon after.

It was the second time the store had been robbed in recent months.

Four 16-year-old boys and a 17-year-old boy were charged this morning with numerous offences, including armed robbery.

They are due to appear at a children's court at a later date, police said.
