WHERE THE LEADERS ARE CAMPAIGNING:

* Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull: Sydney, in the marginal Liberal seat of Reid, for the official launch of the coalition campaign.

* Labor leader Bill Shorten: Brisbane, for a second campaign launch focused on saving Medicare; Gladstone in the marginal Nationals seat of Dawson.

* Greens leader Richard Di Natale: Melbourne, for the Greens campaign launch.

WHAT THE COALITION TALKED ABOUT:

* Now is not the time to change government.

* We have an economic plan to meet the global challenges posed by Brexit.

COALITION LAUNCH PLEDGES

* $10 million to protect, preserve and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait languages as part of the living story of our shared history.

* $64 million to keep guns off our streets and our communities safe.

* $31.2 million in internships and post-school career advice.

* $48 million to help 24,000 of Australia's most disadvantaged children with their education through The Smith Family's Learning for Life program.

* $192 million for mental health reforms to ensure help for individuals and their families, including key commitments in suicide prevention.

* $50 million to improve the digital literacy of senior Australians and improve their safety online.

WHAT LABOR TALKED ABOUT:

* $2 billion in new budget savings and its forecast for the deficit over the next four years.

* How we will guarantee the future of Medicare.

* Turnbull, like David Cameron in the UK, is a weak leader of a divided party.

LABOR'S BUDGET SAVINGS

* $5000 cap on the deduction individuals can claim for the cost of managing their tax affairs. Save $1 billion over 10 years.

* Remove the private health insurance rebate from policies that only cover public hospital treatment. Save $384 million over 10 years.

* $39.5 billion deficit in 2016/17 compared to the $37.1 billion forecast by the government; $11.3 billion deficit by 2019/20, compared to $5.9 billion under the coalition.

WHAT MADE NEWS:

* The PM intensifies his warnings about the dangers arising from the Brexit vote, arguing the result will hinder the global recovery to the financial crisis.

* The latest Galaxy poll puts Labor and the coalition on 50-50 but also found that had Tony Abbott been PM, Labor would have convincingly won the election 53-47 per cent.

* Labor says it will deliver a further $10.5 billion in savings over the next decade, bringing its total budget improvements to more than $130 billion.

* Greens expect to add to their numbers in the lower house and increase its influence in the Senate.
