Data backs my 'better days' talk: Morrison

Treasurer Scott Morrison has been saying since the budget there are "better days ahead" for Australia.

Now he's told his coalition colleagues there's proof the mantra is beginning to materialise.

Mr Morrison briefed a meeting of Liberal and Nationals MPs in Canberra on Tuesday about a range of recent strong economic data, including a 1.2 per cent rise in wages and salaries in the June quarter.

"The better days ahead we talked about in the budget are now coming through in the data," he told the meeting.

The treasurer noted job advertisements lifted by two per cent in August, and were up 13.3 per cent from the same time last year.

The June quarter also saw rises in non-mining investment, by 2.6 per cent, retail trade volume, by 1.2 per cent, and the value of construction work, by 9.3 per cent.

Mr Morrison said the turn for the better has been similar in the US and Europe, which have also experienced strong growth recently.
