Darren Boyd sentenced over 'brutal' assault on Sydney teen Spencer Wilson-Hore

A man will spend up at least two years and four months behind bars for a ruthless gang attack on a far-west Sydney teenager that left him with life-changing injuries.

Darren Boyd has been sentenced to four years and three months in jail over the 2015 bashing of then-18-year-old Spencer Wilson-Hore.

In sentencing Boyd today, the judge said the teenager was lucky to survive the attack at a North Richard intersection.

He described the bashing as a “brutal and sustained assault” that changed the victim’s life forever.

Outside court today, Boyd’s relatives said they were “disappointed” with the lengthy sentence, claiming the attack on Spencer had been provoked.

“The other boys were involved more than it was said in the court – they threw punches,” his mother told 9NEWS outside court today.

“(Darren)’s remorseful for everything, and Spencer is on the way to a good recovery, we’ve heard.”

Following the February 2015 assault, Spencer’s mother Wendy Wilson presented a different account of how the attack unfolded, claiming Spencer “was a brother just looking out for his sister”.

She claimed Spencer and his friends had gone to a home in Bowen Mountain to confront a group of men who had offered his sister ‘ice’.

A fight broke out and Spencer and his friends fled in a maxi taxi, but were followed by another car.

When the taxi stopped at a North Richmond intersection, Spencer was attacked by Boyd and some of the other men.

Witnesses to the attack say the teenager was punched multiple times, causing him to fall to the ground where he was repeatedly kicked.
