Dana Gray sentenced six months home detention for aged care patient assault

An aged care worker caught hitting a dementia patient at a Sydney nursing home has been sentenced to six months home detention.

Dana Gray, 59, was filmed by a hidden camera attacking an 85-year-old woman at The Poplars aged care facility in North Epping last year.

This morning Magistrate Robyn Denes sentenced Gray to a maximum 17 months of detention.

Gray was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device and is only allowed out of her home once a week or for medical emergencies.

In the assault footage, Gray is seen ripping clothes off the dementia patient before aggressively putting her night gown on.

The nursing assistant also slaps the victim four times, leans in to threaten her again before slapping her in the side of the head with a bag of rubbish.

During the trial, Magistrate Denes said called Gray's actions cruel, violent and humiliating.
