Daniel Andrews drops hint over new career after politics

Former Victorian premier Daniel Andrews has registered two companies, offering a hint at what life holds for him post-politics.

The Age reports Andrews established Glencairn Street Pty Ltd and Wedgetail Partners Pty Ltd this week, with his as the sole director and secretary of both.

Australian Securities and Investment Commission filings shows Andrews has a shareholder in Wedgetail Partners who has also invested. He is the sole shareholder in Glencairn Street.

Andrews announced he was quitting politics last September after nine years as premier.

He started MP life in 2002 as a parliamentary secretary but one election later, Andrews was a minister aged 34, picking up the gaming and consumer affairs portfolios, as well as being minister assisting the premier on multicultural affairs.

A landslide defeat against John Brumby at the 2010 election put Labor back into opposition, but provided Andrews the opportunity to become state party leader.

A gain of seven seats in 2014 was more than enough to put Andrews into the premiership, beginning the second-longest continuous stint in Victoria's top job.

A massive eight-seat swing in 2018 gave Labor commanding control of parliament, and Andrews a second term dominated by two emergencies, the Black Summer bushfires and the COVID-19 emergency.
