Cyclist ploughs through intersection and crashes into turning 4WD

A cyclist has escaped serious injury after ploughing through an intersection and into a turning car in Adelaide.

As traffic was gridlocked at an intersection on Main South Road at Bedford Park, in the city's south, the cyclist was breezing past cars in a bike lane.

But as he entered the intersection, he collided with a turning white four-wheel-drive.

The cyclist flew over his handlebars as the bike smashed into pieces in his wake.

Vision of the accident was recorded on the dashboard camera of a stationary car shortly before 5.30pm yesterday.

"Cyclist has a lucky escape from serious injury after T-boning a turning car," the man who recorded it told Dash Cam Owners Australia.

The man can be seen picking himself up off the ground as other motorists get out of their cars to help him.

"He was shaken up but appeared largely unhurt."

Opinion has been divided over who was at fault.

"The rider is going too fast and the car had no chance of seeing," Chris Putnam wrote.

"Cyclist had right of way, but should he really be riding that fast though an intersection that is backed up?" Zac Parkinson asked.

"No sympathy other than to the driver who did nothing to deserve having to deal with that particular brand of moron on the bicycle," Becca Van Mierlo wrote.
