Koala stops shoppers in their tracks as it walks into chemist

A curious koala has been filmed strolling into a pharmacy on the border of New South Wales.

Video obtained by 9NEWS shows the bright-eyed marsupial ambling through the entrance of Tocumwal Pharmacy on Friday afternoon.

Staff and customers were visibly awe-struck as the koala roamed the store, with some stopping in their tracks to give the surprise shopper some space.

Pharmacist Ashley Wiles told 9NEWS he and wife Gabby “couldn’t believe their eyes” when the unlikely customer walked through the doors.

“Our little girl Rose was out the back, so we grabbed her to come and have a look,” Mrs Wiles said today.

Mr Wiles said the koala appeared “very relaxed” and “didn’t want to leave”, prompting him to call the local vet.

“He said to just let it do its thing… and escort it down the street to the closest tree, which we did,” he said.

Images of the cute creature’s big day out have fast spread across social media, Mr Wiles added.

“We've got messages from people in England, Ireland and all across the country sending us messages , basically saying, ‘oh I wish I was there’,” he said.

Nearly 5000 people have “liked” the pharmacy’s post about the koala on Facebook, with many commenting “only in Australia”.
