Head-on NSW crash claims life of father, leaves mother badly injured
A family outing has taken a devastating turn, with a head-on collision leaving a father dead and a mother and their young children injured.
The father was killed instantly upon impact at Culburra on the NSW south coast around 2pm, along with the other male driver.
The mother was pulled from the car and airlifted to hospital in a serious condition.
NSW Police Inspector Paul Condon said it was an horrific scene.
"Motorists around at the time and witnesses all pitched in and tried to help people involved in accident, (but they were) unsuccessful with the drivers," he said.
Inspector Condon urged motorists to take it easy on the roads, with wild weather forecast for the coming days.
"It's going to be very trying conditions over the next week. We ask that everyone be conscious of this and slow down".
