Cricketing institutions mourn Phillip Hughes
Channel 9 CEO David Gyngell and Nine Network Head of Sport Steve Crawley extended their love and thoughts to the Hughes family.
"Our love and thoughts are with the Hughes family at this tragic time," the statement read.
"Their welfare is the only consideration that matters right now, the Nine family extend our love and support to them and Phillip’s friends as well as team mates around Australia and the world."
Cricket Australia chief James Sutherland told a media conference Hughes was a hero to kids around the nation, particularly in his home town of Macksville.
"It was Phillip as a person we will miss most ... he was humble, understated and hard working. He set a wonderful example," Mr Sutherland said.
Australian Cricketers' Association chief Alistair Nicholson said: "Phillip Hughes died playing the sport he loved most".
New Zealand cricket responded by delaying the start of a scheduled game against Pakistan.
Cricket grounds the SCG and MCG flew their flags at half-mast.
Adelaide Oval established a commemorative scoreboard on the ground.
Cricket Australia established a memorial page on its website, encouraging people to leave a tribute to Hughes.
