‘Creepy face’ spotted in Hurricane Matthew satellite image

A ghostly "face" within a satellite image of the catastrophic Hurricane Matthew has caught the attention of social media users.

US meteorologist Stu Ostro spotted the "spooky" shape while observing NASA Earth Science’s infrared satellite of Hurricane Matthew approaching the coast of Haiti.

He posted the "un-doctored" image on Twitter earlier this week, and it  has since garnered almost 3,000 're-tweets' and attracted media attention. 

Atlanta weather presenter Matt Daniel spotted Mr Ostro’s tweet and shared it on Facebook, with the post receiving almost 70,000 shares.

"Not going to lie, little spooked out after looking at this," Mr Daniel wrote.

Some Facebook users said the ghoulish shape bore an uncanny resemblance to Harry Potter’s evil nemesis, Lord Voldemort.
