Crash between Victorian driver and cyclist gets viewers riled up

The moment a Victorian driver sideswipes a cyclist, knocking him off his bike has been caught on camera and is igniting debate online over who is at fault.

The accident in Ballarat on Tuesday afternoon was filmed on another driver’s dashcam and uploaded online by Dash Cam Owners Australia.

In the video, the cyclist can be seen at the right-hand-side of his lane, but swerves over to the left, just as the car in front of him turns in the same direction to park.

The car and bike collide and the impact sends the cyclist flying into a road sign.

The female driver is then seen rushing out of her car to see if he is okay.

In its post, Dash Cam Owners Australia wrote the driver “was being charged” over the accident, prompting more than 800 comments from viewers in less than 24 hours.

The vast majority of comments appear to be in support of the driver.

First Constable Samuel Young, from Ballarat Police Station, told ninemsn the investigation into the crash was ongoing, but said police were not looking to charge the driver.

The cyclist was not seriously injured in the crash, he said.
