Clemton Park crane collapse: Driver freed by Fire and Rescue NSW

A driver trapped in a tipped-over crane was suspended ten metres in the air and surrounded by live power lines for two hours in Sydney's west this morning.

The man was left upside-down inside the crane after it collapsed attempting to lift a fibreglass swimming pool into a home in Clemton Park about 9am.

Residents said they heard a loud bang after one of the neighbours raised their concerns about the crane which was installing a swimming pool.

"(It sounded) like a house was coming down or something, very big bang," neighbour Frieda Tzoumacas told 9NEWS

Emergency crews were called to a property in Julie Avenue following reports the crane had tumbled onto its side, bringing down power lines.

After two agonising hours the worker was freed from the collapsed crane.

"He was exhausted, he was very hot, the cabin was very hot," Inspector Michael Corlis from NSW Ambulance told 9NEWS.

"But once the power was cut off we were able to get a big tarpaulin over him and take the sun away from him."

Risks created by the power lines meant crews worked to isolate power before attempting to rescue the man.

The driver was assessed by paramedics and has been taken to St George Hospital.

Incredibly, the crane landed in a small gap between two properties, narrowly avoiding major damage.

A woman and her dog were inside one of the properties at the time of the collapse, both of which were unharmed.
