Cory Bernardi forms right-wing voting alliance with David Leyonhjelm and Fraser Anning

A new alliance has formed in the Senate among some of Australia's right-wing politicians.

Australian Conservatives leader Cory Bernardi has revealed to 9NEWS he's struck a pact with Liberal Democrats Senator David Leyonhjelm and One Nation defector Fraser Anning.

The three men will work together as an informal bloc to change legislation.

"It's the start of a new Senate year, we want to look to what we have in common and work towards getting the best outcomes for the people of Australia," Senator Bernardi said.

"What we've agreed is we're going to examine legislation and where we find areas in which we are in agreeance, we'll work to make it even better ... to make sure the government's not spending money it doesn't have.

"That should be the stock and trade of every senator and unfortunately the party system locks people out."

The move is expected to increase the clout of the three crossbenchers.

"We have views on any number of areas and where they coincide, we can deliver much better than any individual," Senator Bernardi said.

"We want stronger families, limited government, lower taxes...we want to re-install personal responsibilities front and centre of public life."
